  Roles of a Volunteer

One of the reasons why Tuloy is an effective and successful program is that many individuals come to share their time, talent, and treasure for the good of the streetchildren. The children look forward to their daily encounters with the volunteers. In their own words, "They come to help us even if they are not our relatives -- even if they have no relation to us." A streetchild begins to take his own rehabilitation seriously when he sees that people truly care for him. It helps him to realize that he still has hope.

The volunteers have a critical role in boosting the children´s self-esteem and helping them find the drive to change because so many people are guiding them toward their dreams; so many caring individuals believe in them and what they can become.

Volunteers are an integral part of Tuloy. The founder and father of Tuloy, Father Rocky, believes in this when he says that even if he were to be given all the funding required to sustain all of Tuloy's needs throughout the years he would not take it if it means losing the volunteers.

The volunteers are led by a group called the CORE volunteers. They lead the different committees of the volunteers group. The primary role of the core volunteers is to ensure that the volunteers' program is consistent with the objectives, vision and mission of Tuloy. They not only take care of the children but the volunteers as well.

To make the volunteers´ program move forward, the core volunteers, drafts and implements plans and activities with and for the volunteers body in collaboration with the Tuloy staff.

Importantly, the core volunteers serve as a link between the volunteers and the Tuloy staff in fulfilling the task of total development of the children.
