Many of them first came to Tuloy covered in grime. Dirty bare feet, disheveled and unwashed hair, frail limbs, hungry and sickly… But underneath that unattractive - even repulsive exterior, there is a treasure, a life waiting to be loved and waiting to share itself with others. The children prove all too well that good things don´t always come in good packages. And good things cannot stay hidden forever. Slowly, as the children avail of the programs, they begin to follow rules, share their many talents, appreciate the value of prayer, and care for the people around them.

      Of course, no one can expect them to be perfect. There are still fights, cases of disobedience, children who abscond… These are part of the realities in a Streetchildren Center. But there is the continuing hope that in spite of the mistakes they commit, they will not be discouraged from pursuing their dreams and becoming everything good they can be.
