In the Tuloy Kapatiran and Paligsahan (KAP) last December 6, 2003, an annual inter-center sports and arts fest attended by nearly 1000 street children from 26 different Centers, boys and girls of different ages experienced a whole day of fun, friendship, and competition.
Among the events held by Tuloy to celebrate its first 10 years of service, Tuloy KAP opened with special torch-lighting ceremonies. Tuloy Streetchildren Village was decorated with colorful banners and circus characters to add fun to the festivities. Events included basketball, volleyball, table tennis, track and field, and badminton; special games and prizes, arts and skills contests, cultural presentations, and entertainment including a magic show and karaoke.
One of the highlights was a special 25-minute production number from 150 Tuloy kids entitled "Light Magic". The kids danced and sang, did some acrobatics, juggled, and walked on stilts dressed as harlequins, clowns, lions, tigers, elephants, gorillas, lion tamers, and ring masters.
The prime movers for the event include leaders and members of Tuloy´s Volunteers Enrichment Program (VEP). The volunteers spent the past few months on preparations--painting the backdrop, practicing the children, and coordinating with the participating Centers among other things.
With the help of sponsors and benefactors, the children had enough food, drink, and special treats to sustain them during the day. They also had a bag of goodies to take home after the event.
