Parents in Action in Tuloy

If you are wondering if Tuloy has hired some gardeners to tend its gardens around the school buildings, well, you are mistaken! These "gardeners" are parents of our non-resident students. Two teams report each day from Monday through Friday, one in the morning and another in the afternoon, three hours each time. They do their work so quietly that sometimes you wouldn´t notice them unless you look for them hidden amidst the big leaves of the anahaw trees cleaning, re-planting, and getting their hands dirty.

The PVP (Parent Volunteer Program) was first launched in November, 2004, and was relaunched during the Parents´ General Assembly last June 22, 2005 with Asst. Principal, Mr. Jojo Perez, as program coordinator. 215 parents are on the volunteer list.

What do the parents have to say about PVP? One mother´s comments sum it all up, "We are just happy to see our children in a clean and beautiful school and to be able to say that we helped keep the school clean and beautiful. Our children are in their classrooms learning, and we´re here in the gardens doing our share. It´s all for our children." (Said in Tagalog)

Youth Serving Youth Council

For the first time in Tuloy, all students went through a semblance of how the country´s government leaders are chosen by the citizenry. Students organized four "political" parties with candidates running for six positions. All the parties were given bulletin board space and time with the different classes to campaign and present their platforms. On Election Day, students by class trooped to the polling place in the gym and cast their ballots under the COMELEC´s supervision. All were excited to choose leaders who will lead them in serving each other and Tuloy.

President-elect Mr. Gilbert Faustino (Electrical/ non-resident) and his council members are now making plans for their projects for the year. These include partnering with different Tuloy units to enhance student discipline, sports and recreations, outreach program, religious affairs, and even parent activities. The council is composed of Class Presidents. The adviser is Mr. Rico Vallecer, the school´s Co-Curricular Affairs Coordinator.

Caring Doctors in our Midst

Quality health care in Tuloy is made possible by doctors and dentists who share their time and expertise to care for our children. Some of Tuloy´s partners in its mission of caring are Dr. Polly Medalla and his wife, Dra. Sally Medalla (in picture), the dental clinics of Dra. Cecilia Miranda, Dr. Renato Obispo, Dr. Edgardo Abesamis and Dr. Salvador de Leon, and specialists at the Asian Hospital & Medical Center. Tuloy´s Wellness Director, Sr. Emma Cameros, FMIJ, believes that the health of a child is an important factor in the fulfillment of his goals in life.

To our doctor and dentist-friends and all others who are familiar faces to Tuloy kids in the clinic, our heartfelt THANK YOU, and may your tribe increase a hundredfold!
